Somehow, contouring has become part of my daily makeup routine. Like most things when it comes to makeup application, it takes a little bit of practice but once you nail it and see the difference it makes, you’ll never go back. A lot of people are intimidated by it and feel like it’s mostly for formal/glam occasions but you can pull off a subtle contour on the daily to enhance your look. I wanted to share with you guys a step-by-step tutorial on how I apply my contour and even add some tips and tricks along the way. But first, let’s talk about what I use to achieve that look!
I already use Maybelline foundation (as you’ve seen in my YouTube tutorials and Instagram posts) but I haven’t tried these new products until now. I’ve heard so many great things about them from other makeup gurus so I thought I’d give them a try.
This Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation has a gel-whipped formula and has such a smooth and creamy texture. It has medium coverage and works really well with my combination skin. It wasn’t drying, it didn’t flake, and it definitely didn’t look cakey.
I looove how the Maybelline Dream Velvet Blender has a handle. It’s like a hybrid of a brush and a makeup sponge! It’s honestly nothing like any makeup applicator I’ve ever used before. It’s very dense but it provides even coverage with the foundation. The pointy tip also allows you to get in the creases that other applicators can’t get to (around the eyes and nose).
The Maybelline Master Contour Palette is the only palette you’ll need for contouring. It includes contouring powder, blush, highlighter, and even a contour applicator brush!
3.Apply the Maybelline Dream velvet Foundation directly onto the blender. Pick up some of the product and dab it all over your face.
I know the palette says 1. Contour, 2. Blush, and 3. Highlight, but I like putting blush on first so I can blend the contour out with it after, instead of layering blush over the contour and messing it up.
5.Simply grab a fluffy brush, pick up some of that blush, and apply onto cheeks in a circular motion, sweeping outwards.
TIP: Don’t know where exactly to put on blush? Smile. The apples of your cheeks will pop out, and your blush goes exactly on that area.
6.Add a line of bronzer/contour powder under your cheekbones using the contour applicator brush, all the way until it aligns with your pupils.
9.Using the contour applicator brush, add some of the contour powder onto the sides of your nose and blend down.
10. Add highlighter to the height of your cheeks (the part that hits the sun the most), down the middle of your nose, and on your Cupid’s bow (the upside down V on top of your lip).
I’ve only been able to find the Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation, Dream Velvet Blender, and Master Contour Palette at Walmart, so if you’re looking to try these products (and I know some of you on snapchat have asked about them) they’ll be in the cosmetics section!
Do you contour your face? Are these new Maybelline products ones you’d like to try?
