Disclosure: While this month’s #DiversityChic has been sponsored by Fossil Group, Inc., all opinions are my own.
Diversity Chic is one of my favorite things about blogging, and this particular installment is my new favorite for several reasons. Not only was Valery back in town after a long while (and we were able to resurrect the series while she was in the area), but we also came together for something #GivingTuesday themed! I feel like November DC posts are always much more personal, and this is no different.
For those of you who don’t know what Diversity Chic is, here’s a little tidbit:
“Diversity Chic is a collaboration of Dallas bloggers showcasing current fashion trends on a variety of skin tones, hair colors, body types and heights. Each month we will feature a new trend tailored to our personalities and style.
Our focus is to explore the world of fashion in its unique, diverse, and stylish manner – one trend at a time.”
So what’s #GivingTuesday? It’s basically a dedicated day for charity and giving back. After several days of being thankful and spending money on material things, today would be a good day to pay it forward. For this month’s Diversity Chic, instead of focusing on trends, we tried to focus on the ways we could give back to our community. Since we have varying schedules and overall get busier around the holidays, we figured donating some much needed items was the best way to go. The local crisis center had a list of goods and clothing that they were low on, so we did our best to fulfill it. We collected and purchased canned goods and gathered clothing (which fashion bloggers should have PLENTY to spare) to donate just in time for Thanksgiving! Our Mon Amie Watches were also another way to give back. Mon Amie is French for “my friend,” and their goal is to make as big of an impact just like a true friendship would. Every Mon Amie watch has a different cause– mine being clean water— and for every purchase, a donation will be made to that particular cause! It also comes with a cute pin that you can either sport or gift to someone else. The best part is that you can track your impact online, so you can get a closer look on how your purchase is making a difference.
I seriously have the greatest blogger friends with the biggest hearts, and there’s no surprise how eager they were to help out for a #GivingTuesday cause. I absolutely love inciting change along with them, while creating an impact as big and as strong as our friendship! If you need more ways on how you can participate in Giving Tuesday, here are some ideas:
1. Set Up a Facebook Fundraiser
Raise money for a cause you care about– setting up is SO EASY and everything is online! You can even do it from your phone.
2. Donate Your Time/Money/Expertise
Those are the top things that charities really need. Helping hands, funds, and your professional input can help any organization efficiently allocate their resources.
3. Start a Drive That You’re Passionate About
Whether it’s canned goods for the pantry, books for the local school, jackets or toys for kids, there’s always a cause that’s in need of your help.
4. Sponsor A Kid/Family During The Holidays
This holiday season is some of the hardest for some families, so if you can, try putting a smile on their faces by knocking something off their wish list!
5. Start Somewhere Close
Think of the strongest person you know. Now do something nice for them because they likely struggled a whole lot just to get to where they are. Ask how they’re doing, have a conversation and catch up over coffee (on you), or what you can do to make things better for them.
