Let’s face it– parenting is hard. Don’t get me wrong, it is HIGHLY rewarding. It’s just really stressful knowing that a little creature’s life is in your hands. You want to give them the world but also want to protect them from it simultaneously. All while staying sane and not forgetting about your own happiness. One of the things that I will always admire about Philip (and I always say this around Father’s Day) is his ability and desire to become the great father that he has become for Sky despite not having a good example of one growing up. We were both raised by single mothers, so neither of us really know what it’s like growing up with a dad, but it warms my heart knowing that he’s just absolutely dedicated in being that person for Sky that he wish he had when he was younger.
He and Sky have that special bond– one that I probably will never understand. Skylar’s attitude turns around instantly when he’s around. From what I’ve heard, Sky is actually mostly well-behaved and “chill” when it’s just the two of them spending time together. It takes me an average of 1.5 hours to get him to sleep, but with dad’s magic touch it’s a whopping 3 minutes. So just like my mom’s day off, I believe awesome dads deserve to have some fun time as well for all the hard work they do! One thing that they both enjoy during the summer: POOL TIME!
Texas just started rolling out with the hot afternoons, so I imagine pool time will start to be more common for us in the next few months. This year, we’re celebrating Father’s Day early since Philip will be out of town for Father’s Day weekend. But the pool is the perfect place to have that father and son time while cooling off!
You’d have to be a good parent to know your kid’s quirks, and trust me, all kids have them. For instance, Skylar refuses to leave the house without being fully clothed (wonder where he gets that from haha) so swimming with no shirt or shoes is a no-go. He also has to slowly get acquainted with the water, so he’s not just going to jump in and splash around. His dad makes sure that he feels safe and comfortable with the water, so they take their time pool side to get used to it 🙂
Skylar just got these Bump It Tropical Sandals from Crocs and he is in love. I kid you not, he begged to wear them to bed when he got them. I can just imagine how comfortable they are if you’re willing to sleep in them, right? Philip chose these CitiLane Roka Slip-Ons in Flame, which is the perfect color to rock this summer!
Once Skylar felt ready to jump into the water, I just had to put the camera away because 1. he’s a serial splasher and 2. I couldn’t miss out on the memories we were about to make. I’ve only been a parent for less than 5 years but I can guarantee that the moments that stick out the most are the ones where your kid flashes the biggest smile and the sparkliest eyes. That alone makes it worth it and Skylar is very lucky to have a father that works hard to make sure that smile never leaves his face.
