Summer is right around the corner and for a tropical-skinned girl like myself, that means I’m about to look spotty. I tan so easily and it only happens in the parts of my body that hit the sun. I recently went to Austin for a quick mini vacation and while it was only spring, I definitely got a tan but mainly on my forearms. The outer parts of my legs got darker as well but not so much the rest of it. Instead of being a bronzed beauty, I ended up looking like I got broiled under the sun’s rays. I was looking a lot like a creme brûlée to be honest with you. But luckily for you I’ve got a few tips on how to get that Natural Glowing Look back right in time for summer, and some tips on how to fix that uneven skin tone if you’re like me!
1. Stay Hydrated
The sun’s rays and the heat can be drying to your skin, but staying hydrated will help bring the glow back internally. Over these past few years my skin has been a telling sign of whether I’m dehydrated or not. I tend to have more wrinkles and dry skin when I haven’t been drinking enough water.
As I mentioned earlier, I burn pretty easily, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the look I’m trying to achieve. I want a subtle and natural-looking tan, and one that doesn’t darken me overnight. So far I’ve been loving the Firming Daily Moisturizer. I’m so light in my thighs, inner arms, and legs, and the firming aspect just overall helps the appearance. I started only applying it to the drastically lighter areas of my body as you can see below (note the different-colored legs!):
After a few days, I could tell that I was starting to look more even-toned and tanned! So I started to use it all over for a healthier-looking, full body tan. If you’re in need of something more immediate, I’d suggest using the JERGENS® Natural Glow® 3 Days to Glow™ Moisturizer, which I have on hand in case I get a last-minute invite to lay out poolside with friends! I’m honestly not quite a fan of laying out under the sun but I can’t miss out on an opportunity to be in a pool setting. In 3 days I’ll be able to get that sun-kissed tan that people will be laying out for! I will note that the 3 Days to Glow™ Moisturizer has no SPF, so you will still need to use sunscreen to get that protection if you’re going to be out in the sun all day.
This is actually such a life saver because it made me look tanned, glowing, and ready for summer during my recent outfit shoot! This was shot in 50-degree weather but my skin tone makes you think otherwise 😉
I got both of these products from Walmart, and even scored a deal! The full sized products had stickers on them that said “Save $3.00 on any 2 full size Jergens® Natural Glow® Product (Offer excludes trial and travel sizes)”
3. Use A Gentle Cleanser For Everyday Wash
Your face tends to get darker during the summer and you do sweat more, but that doesn’t mean you have to exfoliate every day. Constantly scrubbing your face will get rid of the natural tan in your face a lot more rapidly than the rest of your body, making you look uneven. It might even be too harsh on your skin if you’re doing it to already dry skin. Stick to a gentle daily cleanser for a more natural glow in the face. You CAN exfoliate once a week, and especially before applying your Natural Glow products, just don’t do it everyday or it’ll defeat the purpose of applying it!
4. Use A Good Contour & Highlight
As part of faking it ’til you make it, a good illusion doesn’t hurt. Using a contour powder that’s a shade darker than your face (that’s slowly getting tan) helps create shadows, and using a highlighter to enhance the lighter parts of your face just adds to your glow!
5. Eat Food High In Antioxidants
Antioxidants have been known to be anti-aging plus it helps improve the condition of your skin, which encourages you getting your glow from within as well. Munch on some antioxidant-rich berries or even a full acai berry bowl!
