Whether you’re been in a decade-long relationship or just playing the field, it’s always nice to put your best foot forward during dates. I used to hesitate so much and stay on the safe side of things, but for the past few years I’ve been on a mission to take more risks and be bolder! So far I’ve worn things I normally wouldn’t, and done some activities (AKA outdoorsy stuff) that I couldn’t even picture myself doing a few years ago. Stepping outside your comfort zone once in a while is necessary for self-discovery, and I also think it’s part of how you change as a person. Once I realized that getting dressed and feeling my best on dates was for myself (and not to please others), I felt more confidence and was able to relax enough to showcase the real me. Here are some tips I have on how to prep for date night:
1. Clothing That Makes You Feel Good
This dress was way out of my comfort zone, and at the last minute I considered tucking it away forever and replacing it with something else that I wasn’t fully happy about but I figured was safe. But I REALLY loved this dress– I was just being shy. But why? And what for? Eventually I told myself that I should wear it anyway. It accentuates the features that I love most and it really did empower me! I just got too worried about what other people might think, but at the end of the day they don’t get to decide how I feel about myself. Wear clothing that makes you feel happy.
2. Light Your Face Up
Now I don’t mean this literally, but I do have a few tricks up my sleeve. You can use as very little or as much makeup as you please! I like to bring attention to my favorite facial features, so I make sure my eyes have mascara and that I sport a BOLD lip color. I like to think that having flirty eyes encourages eye contact, and wearing a bold lip color helps other people focus on listening for when you talk.
3. Be Prepared To Get Close
Oral hygiene is highly important for your overall well being to begin with, and having fresh breath on a date is a plus! Your confidence and eagerness to have a conversation if you’re feeling apprehensive of your oral health. LISTERINE® Total Care helps you take care of that because of it’s 6 benefits all in 1 bottle! It helps prevent cavities, restores minerals to enamel, strengthens your teeth, kills bad breath germs, cleans the whole mouth, and freshens the breath. I absolutely love to talk once I start getting comfortable, and it’s also a good way to get to know somebody. Having good oral hygiene definitely helps with opening myself up more to other people! We just finished up an entire bottle of LISTERINE® Total Care here at home, so it was definitely time to get a new one.
4. Keep Touch Up Tools Handy
If you’re nervous and starting to get sweaty or if you’re enjoying your evening way too much that you didn’t even realize how long you’ve been out other than the onset oil on your face, you may need to touch up. I usually just like to bring the essentials like my foundation, a setting powder, and the lipstick I’m wearing. These items should be small enough to carry around in your purse and are perfect for the quick touch up!
5. Relax & Be Bold
Don’t get too nervous to where you clam up and overthink things! Make sure you relax before going through any plans that you may have. There’s nothing better than being comfortable with sharing your true self with other people. I’ve always believed that if they can’t appreciate you for who you are, then they don’t need to be in your life. You also don’t want to regret the things you didn’t do, and I’m happy to say that I haven’t had any major regrets these past few years! Being bold and comfortable in my own skin has helped me come out of my shell and I can definitely say that confidence is the best asset one can wear on a date!
