Ever since puberty hit, I’ve had to deal with problematic skin. It was the worst when I was in high school, and we weren’t even allowed to wear makeup then. It finally got better when I moved here to the US, but I’d still have breakouts here and there, especially around that time of the month. You know when you have acne that’s not quite on the surface yet but you feel them building up from underneath? I personally feel like that is the worst phase for me, and this Neutrogena® Light Therapy Acne Mask helps with that. I’m insanely excited to show you how to get started (it DOES look a tad intimidating, but I promise you it’s SO easy) and in a month, show you the difference with my skin! Here’s a step by step on how I treat my acne at home with the Neutrogena Light Therapy Acne Mask:
1. Start with a clean face!
Make sure your face is rid of makeup, dirt, and oils. You can use facial soap but if you want to cover your bases, use the Clean & Clear® Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleansing Wipes. It’s oil-free but not drying, and doesn’t leave residue, so you won’t even need to rinse after using it!
2. Unbox the Neutrogena® Light Therapy Acne Mask
In the box, you’ll get the light therapy mask, and a 30-day activator (with batteries included). Before, you can only get this kind of treatment at the dermatologist’s office, but now with this patented mask you can do this clinically proven treatment at home! You can purchase it at Walmart in the acne aisle:
It may seem intimidating, but it’s actually pretty simple! If you see the inside of the mask, you’ll notice the lights all over the mask. It has a Dual Mode of Action: the blue light kills 99% acne-causing bacteria & red light reduces acne inflammation. It basically stops the acne before it breaks through! To start it up, just plug the mask into the activator. Like I mentioned, it should already come with the batteries so no need to worry on that. The mask will not turn hot to the touch, either!
4. Put Mask On and Activate
Press the power button for a little over a second to turn it on. You’ll see the lights come up, but with the attached glasses, they really don’t bother or distract your vision. The Neutrogena Light Therapy Acne Mask is chemical-free, FDA cleared, and UVA/UVB-free. Way cheaper too compared to doing it at the dermatologist (which could cost around $500!)
5. Multi-Task & Wait 10 Minutes
The mask is lightweight and comfortable, and it also has viewing slot that enables multi-tasking. One session is 10 minutes (and you only need one a day), and with that time you can quickly browse through social media, respond to those text messages you’ve been ignoring all day, or even Snapchat your experience!
And that should be it! I’m sharing my Day One photo with you guys, so we can compare what my skin looks like after 30 days. In a clinical study, results began in as little as 1-week and continued to improve over time. Best results were seen after 12 weeks (where nearly 100% showed fewer breakouts!) so it’s definitely ideal to use it daily for clearer, healthier skin! For now, you can see some redness, bumps, and scars. I’m feeling pretty hopeful and we’ll be seeing a huge difference when my activator runs out!
