The cold rain didn’t stop hundreds of people from lining up early before the doors opened over at House of Blues in Dallas last Saturday. I don’t blame them– Handsome Ghost, BØRNS, and MisterWives were scheduled to play. I came to see MisterWives, but I was glad to hear that BØRNS was part of the opening act since I was also a fan of their music. I honestly hadn’t heard of Handsome Ghost until I saw that they were also scheduled to play but then a week later they started to pop up on Spotify’s New Music Tuesday so I guess it’s safe to say that their popularity is on the rise. They played a great set including a cover of The 1975’s song “Sex,” which was a great hit with the crowd.
BØRNS was scheduled to play next, and the transition was very smooth with minimal wait. I heard from some people in the crowd that they came to see him, and you can tell that with how much the audience cheered just as he walked in. BØRNS is wonderful to listen to live, and I pretty much fell in love with the Bennie and the Jets (Elton John) cover! And also his face. I currently have a TV crush on Matthew Grey Grubler from Criminal Minds, and BØRNS is pretty much the singing version of him. (Also, YAY for female band members!)
Now I’m sure it was me being excited/anxious/impatient, but there was a bit of a wait between BØRNS and MisterWives. They obviously had to clear some instruments out of the way and do a quick sound check, I just started to feel tired and hungry while waiting. The band finally came out around 10:30, and let me tell you– the energy on that stage started high AND STAYED HIGH! Somehow, they made me forget that I woke up at 5:30 that morning and that I forgot to eat lunch.
Before the concert, I already knew that MisterWives was a great band. What I didn’t realize until I saw them last Saturday is that they have the most amazing chemistry for a co-ed band (or any band for that matter) with a huge stage presence. Mandy fully utilized the stage, even doing push ups at one point! She’s just 50 layers of cuteness. The insanely talented band was having a hell of a time performing, which in turn made the show much more enjoyable. They were also such a humble group of people– they cried at the end of the show because they were so overwhelmed with all the love that Dallas had to give!
There couldn’t have been a better combination of musical acts to squeeze into one show. If there was one show you MUST see this year, it’s Misterwives Our Own House tour. Check to see if they’re stopping by near you!
