Many of us at some point have probably spent an insane amount of time and money looking for the perfect red lipstick. I know that I’ve definitely fallen victim to it! We all just want that classic look but can never find the perfect shade. After WAY too many purchases, I realized that there was an actual strategy to it, and I’m here to share it with you all!
1. Determine Your Undertone
There are three options: cool, warm, and neutral. If you have a cool undertone, you’re mostly wearing red-based foundation with words like “ivory” and “buff.” You look really great wearing blues, pastels, pinks, etc. Your veins appear blue under your skin. If you have a warm undertone, you’re mostly wearing yellow-based foundation with words like “tan” or “honey.” You look amazing in greens, oranges, and other jewel tones. If you look on your wrist, your veins appear green. If you have a neutral undertone, you just have a combination of both and look good in pretty much anything. Lucky duck!
2. Know Your Skin Tone
This is pretty easy. Generally, there are 3 main groups you can fall under (there are far more for foundations but for lipstick purposes, we’ll stick with three): Fair, Medium, and Deep. This should be pretty self explanatory!
3. Know The Difference Between a Warm Reds and Cool Reds
This is will help you in selecting the perfect color when you’re at the store. If you have a cool undertone, pick the cool reds. These would be more blue-based, leaning more towards plums. If you have a warm undertone, pick the warm reds. They would be more brick-like or terracotta with an orange base. Here’s a chart that should help you in finding the perfect shade of red for you!
4. Purchase The Lipstick
Maybelline Color Sensational LipColor has an amazing range of cool and warm based reds (and pinks!) to choose from, so you’ll be able to find one that’s perfect for your skin tone! The one I’m using is in the shade Rich Ruby.
To finish off the Valentine’s Day Look, make sure you’re equipped with the perfect products that allow a variety of looks, not just for your special night but year-round! My new favorite palette right now is The Blushed Nudes Palette from Maybelline.
How about you? What look will you be rocking for Valentine’s Day?
